Incentives
Going green has many advantages in both residential and commercial applications. Most clients we work with already know about the trend towards going green. However, what they don't always realize is the financial advantages of going green. Now going green also means making green. The financial oppportunities presented by a solar installation are unheard of. The average return on investment with a solar system is 18%!
Competitive Solar can make your system be one of the best investments your company has made.
Net Metering
The term net metering refers to the method of accounting for a PV system's electricity production. It is a policy that allows PV system owners to receive the full value of the electricity that their solar energy system produces. As the PV system produces electricity, the kilowatts are used first to meet the electric requirements of that meter’s load. Then, if more electricity is produced from the PV system than needed, the extra kilowatts are fed into the utility grid. Earning you credits on your electricty bills. Energy Trust of Oregon
The Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO) is an incentive program founded by PG&E Power and Pacific Power. These utility companies have realized that there is serious potential in solar. They save more money by offering you a decent incentive than hiring people and managing an average utility power plant. They are also pursuing solar because they must meet strict legisltion that states at least 20% of their energy provded must come from renewable energies by 2020.
ETO offers rebates between $.90 and $1.50 per watt of installed DC electricity for PGE and PP&L customers on solar system up to 200kW. Your system must be approved for the rebate before beginning the project. It’s also important to note that ETO requires roof mounted systems to be on a roof certified with at least 15 years of remaining life. We’re responsible for the majority of the rebate paperwork. This paperwork includes such things as expected annual electricity production, sun charts, technical specifications, and equipment lists. State
Residential: In the state of Oregon, a residential system can receive $3.00/watt for the size of the system up to $6,000 (2,000 watt system). This is all part of the Residential Energy Tax Credit (RETC). We will help you fill out the paperwork to ensure you can take full advantage of all incentives, many of which occure in the first year.
Commercial: Oregon currently has one of the greatest state based tax incetives in the nation. The Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC) is a tax credit that will subsidize the install cost of the system by 50% through tax credits over 5 years. The tax credits presented by the BETC can be used forward for up to 8 years if a client doesn't have the tax appetite to receive the credits over a 5 year period. Competitive Solar works with large corporations that can also come in purchase the tax credits from the client.
Federal
Residential: Systems for residential applications qualify for a 30% tax credit on the install cost.
Commercial: The Federal Income Tax Credit (FITC) offsets the cost of the system by 30% of the installation cost. The FITC can also be taken in the form of a grant. However, when done as such the 30% total is withdrawn from the incentive offered by the state with the BETC.
Accelerated Depreciation (MACRS)
Commercial only: Solar Systems can also qualify for Accelerated Depreciation, which is another tax break that helps subsidize the cost of the system.
Greentags (Carbon Offsets)
Greentags are produced by renewable energy power plants, like solar. Greentags are then purchased by varying entities, generally businesses who want to make their company have a more environmentally friendly image.
Production Income
Our systems are designed to be the best possible return on your investment. We can offset your entire electricity usage, but also want to make sure that you are not over burdened with excess tax credits.
